STS-114 was the Space Shuttle's
Return to Flight Mission following the STS-107 disaster. Inside
Discovery's payload bay the Raffaello Multi-Purpose Logistics
Module was attached. The Italian-built module has been loaded with
supplies and cargo for the International Space Station. Before the Shuttle docked to the
Station, extensive tile inspections have taken place using a newly
installed boom camera attached to Discovery's robotic arm. The Station
crewmembers did also carefully photograph Discovery's underside as it
approaches the orbital complex. First time ever an astronaut was set to work at the belly of a Space Shuttle during a spacewalk. |
